The city was created by Alexander the Great in 332 BC along the coastal line of the Mediterranean Sea in the north-central coast of Egypt for the purpose of transmitting the Hellenic culture & teachings to the rest of the Mediterranean region where it soon becomes the capital of Egypt.
It is the home of two wonders of the ancient world, the ancient lighthouse of Alexandria which was destroyed by earthquakes in 1323 and on the same location lies the citadel of Qaitbay which rose in 1477 AD to be a powerful fortress against the Ottoman Empire. The second wonder is the ancient Library of Alexandria which once contained millions of scrolls but was destroyed possibly in 48 BC, today a new library by the name of Bibliotheca Alexandria was constructed to keep the spirit of the original ancient library.

Luxor has gained the name “The City of Hundred Doors” as each door leads to different heaven, it is located in Upper Egypt in the lands of “Thebes” and used to be the capital of the Middle Kingdom and the New Kingdom, it holds the biggest man-made religious temple in the world known as El-Karnak Temple which is located at the center of the city and is dedicated to the holy trinity of Amon, Mut, and Khonsu.
The city is guarded by the Colossi of Memnon which belongs to Amenhotep III in the 18th dynasty. The temple of Luxor is the second largest temple after EL-Karnak temple and was built by Amenhotep II & Ramses II to hold the festival of Opet.
