The Egyptian archaeological mission working in the Mir Antiquities area in the city of Al-Qusiya, Asyut Governorate, revealed parts of some buildings dating back to the Byzantine era and a number of burials from the late era.
This was stated by Dr. Mostafa Waziri, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, emphasizing the importance of this discovery, which indicates the importance of this site during the ancient, middle, and late eras. He pointed to the text of the prayers and supplications to the first saints that were discovered on one of the walls of those buildings, written in black ink in eight horizontal Coptic lines, topped by shelves of mud and straw that may have been used to store the monk's necessities and preserve manuscripts.
For his part, Dr. Adel Okasha, Head of the Central Administration of Antiquities of Middle Egypt, said that the buildings that were discovered in the upper cemetery of the area are a group of courtyards consisting of a number of rooms, storage places, and a fire pit. As for the burials that were discovered in the lower cemetery, parts of wooden coffins, skeletal structures, and some funeral furniture were found in poor preservation condition. He pointed out that one of these burials belongs to a lady, and inside her coffin, which was in poor preservation condition, only a mask, shroud, and parts of the chest remained. In addition to a number of different shaped and sized pottery vessels and a collection of blue and black glass beads and two brass mirrors. It is worth mentioning that the Mir cemetery includes a group of fully carved rock tombs dating back to the ancient and middle eras.
