Tour Reviews

5.00 based on 22 reviews

We went on the 2 days tour based on the reviews and we did well. We didn’t feel rushed at all and had plenty of time to enjoy each experience without a hurry. Our guide was Nermeen Nabil and she was simply great! Knowledgeable, honest and in a very good mood all the time. We learned much and got to experience Luxor at its best. She showed us patiently every place and also made honest recommendations regarding on what we should buy or not. Her English is very good and she is very passionate about her job.

The hotel where we stood overnight was nice and comfortable, staff was kind and welcoming and the view over the Nile amazing. I wouldn’t recommend though, eating in the Italien restaurant in there.

We also booked a flight with a Ballon which was worth all the money. Felt safe and well guided for the entire trip and the feeling was great. We tried it for the first time and couldn’t have been a better experience.

Everything was made easy and well planned for us. Starting with being picked up from the hotel and the entire trip.

Amazing tour!
Me and my mates really enjoyed our 2 day Luxor highlights tour from Hurghada. We were picked up at our hotel promptly and were taken straight to Luxor where we met with our guide Marian Azer, who was very friendly, informative and helpful. We started off the tour at Karnak Temple Complex and were told of the history behind it, and then had plenty of time for photo opportunities.

After our lunch we were then taken to our hotel where we had a couple of leisurely hours by the pool before being picked up at 5.30 in the evening for a visit to Luxor temple at night which was stunning. We were than taken back to our hotel to spend the evening at leisure. The only issue with the hotel was that we only had two beds and were a group of three so a guest bed would have been welcome. Apart from that everything else was fine with our stay.

The following day we had an early start and were taken to the Valley of the kings. The ticket included entry into 3 of the tombs. We chose to visit that of Ramesses II, Ramesses IV and Merenptah at Marian’s suggestion. All three were incredible. If you wish to visit any more then make sure you bring some cash with you to pay at the entrance of each separate tomb – that of Tutankhamun’s is the priciest.

Our next stop was a visit to the Temple of Hatshepsut who was a particularly unique Queen in Ancient Egyptian times. Our final highlight was the Colossi of Memnon, which are two giant statues of the pharaoh Amenhotep III. Just before lunch we also had the opportunity to visit a shop selling genuine alabaster and basalt ornaments, where we could see the men making them by hand and even have a short go at working the materials ourselves – this also proved to be a great souvenir opportunity! After this, we then began the 4 hour trip back to Hurghada, where we were kindly dropped off at the airport ready for our flight back to the UK.

Overall, the sights we saw on this tour were spectacular and I would highly recommend a trip to Luxor for anyone interested in Egyptology. However, me and my mates agreed that there seemed to be a lot of free time and the contents included in the two days could quite easily have been completed in one long day-trip.

Overnight trip from Hurghada to Luxor with 7 year old
We booked an overnight 2 day trip from Hurghada to Luxor at the end of October with Egypt Tours Portal for a family of 3 (we have a 7 year old daughter). The booking process was simple, quick and professional.

A private taxi collected us from our hotel in Hurghada at 6am and drove us to Luxor. About a 4 hour driev. We met our guide Mahmoud Nour on arrival in Luxor and he organised our whole trip seemlessly, always ensuring that our driver was ready to pick us up from each toursit attraction and organising tickets for us so that we were not pestered by local sales persons in the heat. Mahmoud is a great guide who speaks excellent English. He is very knowledgeable, professional and made our whole experience unforgetable.

On day 1 we visited Karnak in the morning, checked in to our Hotel (Steigenberger on the Nile with an outdoor swimming pool that our 7 year old loved), then Luxor Temple, followed by the light show at Karnak Temple, a horse drawn carriage ride and drinks and desert in a local outdoor cafe/restaurant.

On day 2 we took a private boot to the West Bank of the Nile and visited Valley of the Kings, Hatschepsut’s Temple, Valley of the Workers and the Habu Temple. Then we travelled by private boot for a wonderful late lunch at a quiet (no music) restaurant on the banks of the Nile before our driver drove us back to Hurghada.

We would highly recommend using Mahmoud Nour at Eygpt Tours Portal as your guide if you plan on visting Luxor. An added bonus that is rare in Egypt – you will not be taken to any carpet factories, papyrus shops, camel rides etc..unless of course you specifically request this!

Perfect and flexible itinerary, excellent and helpful guide

We are parents with a 7-year-old doing the overnight trip from Hurghada to Luxor. Although we had been to Luxor on a previous holiday, our tour guide Mahmoud Nour made it a great experience. We did Karnak, Luxor temple and a horse carriage tour at night and had great food and sweets in the evening. Our guide organised everything perfectly, was knowledgeable and flexible to give us just the right mixture between explaining and giving us our own time. No unwanted shopping excursions etc. The second day was Valley of the Kings, Hatschepsut temple, valley of the workers and Habu temple, followed by a delicious late lunch at a pleasantly calm place on the Nile bank. We would highly recommend Mahmoud Nour as a guide.

Fantastic Tour of Luxor

I have just been on a brilliant tour of Luxor with Nermeen. She gave me an excellent overview of the history helping me make sense of the incredible history around me. She interspersed this with humourous historical tales and pointed out small details which always grabs my interest.

I would highly recommend her to anyone that wants to see the many sights of Luxor – she even used her contacts after to ensure that I had a traditional and delicious dinner to finish off my tour.

Private 2-day trip to Luxor from Hurghada
We were picked up from our hotel by our English speaking driver in a private air conditioned car. The journey to Luxor took about 4 hours with a couple of short stops on the way. In Luxor we were met by our tour guide Mr Ahmed Galal who has an encyclopidic knowledge of Egyptian history. He had excellent English and took us to see the highlights of Luxor. Ahmed made sure we were comfortable at all times and brought us extra drinks due to the heat. We stayed overnight in a very nice hotel next to the Nile and continued the tour the next day. The drive back to Hurghada took only 3.5 hours due to a faster road. We did go to explore Luxor downtown area during the evening without our guide but did not enjoy it due the very persistent carriage drivers who followed us everywhere we went. Overall Egypt Tours Portal provided us with a very professional tour which we enjoyed very much. If you are thinking of booking with them then you won’t be disappointed, although some of my emails to them went unanswered they were easy to deal with over the phone.

Two day Luxor trip with Galal Ahmed
The company was very professional and catered to our needs as we altered our two day trip. They were prompt communicators via email. The driver pricked us up at the expected time and was ready with water and anything else we needed for the trip to Luxor. There we met Galal who spoke excellent English and had a tour organised which made sense and his guidance throughout the temples and tombs was excellent. He left time for us to explore and did not bombard us with information unless we wanted him to. The hotel was excellent and he even checked us in. The lunches were are traditional restaurants and tasted great even for vegetarians. The time he spent with us made it very much worth the money we spent. I’d recommend this trip to anyone interested in Egypt, especially from a historical perspective.

We have just had a fantastic 2 days with our guide and driver from Egypt Tours.
From being picked up at exactly 6.00 AM until our return the next day we were looked after like truly valued guests.
Our guide was great as was the driver and the hotel in Luxor.
We took a couple of additional options, one being the trip around the downtown streets. Well worthwhile.
We are glad we had the 2 days to appreciate not just the monuments but also see a bit of normal daily life.
We would recommend this to anyone.

We chose to take a two-day trip to Luxor from Hurghada for the exploration of the Valley of the Kings and the other major Ancient Egypt temples in and around Luxor. After seeing recommendations on Tripadvisor, we selected EgyptTourPortals and through the arranger Mr Ahmad requested the highly praised Ayman Abdou as our guide for the two days. Ayman proved to be an excellent guide, passionate and highly educated on Ancient Egypt and really brought things to life with his enthusiastic delivery and descriptive language. We were looking for a guide who could really get across to us the immense achievements and richness of the Egyptian history and Ayman excelled with his descriptive, impactful and sometimes humourous language. Also we felt entirely safe and well looked after throughout our two day trip with Ayman ensuring we were comfortable and happy at all times.

If you choose to do the 2-day trip (I think to do it all in one day from Hurghada is a bit much), we stayed at The Steigenberger Nile Palace Hotel in Luxor, which again was excellent.

Our driver Ahmad was a careful and safe driver over the two days and his vehicle was meticulously clean, well maintained and very comfortable.

EgyptTourPortals are excellent in communicating and ensure that you have a full and accurate definition of all aspects of the tour that they will provide to you, and meet expectations in every way.

In conclusion, from our personal experience, we can highly recommend EgyptTourPortals and Ayman Abdou as your guide.

We decided to book our trip after reading all the great reviews for this company on Trip Advisor. Initial contact was made by email, and the price quoted was in GBP. We agreed our date and itinerary, so we knew exactly what to expect. Our driver, Mahmoud, arrived on the dot of 6am to collect us from our hotel in Hurghada for our drive to Luxor. Car was spotless, his driving was excellent and his english was good. In Luxor we met our guide for the next 2 days, Mohamed Hassan, what a knowledgeable man! He answered all our numerous questions, and really helped to make our trip a success. We visited Karnak and Luxor temples on the the first day, had a lovely lunch, and stayed overnight at a wonderful hotel ‘Sonesta St George’ with a fantastic view across the Nile. Our second day was taken up mostly by a visit to the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut temple and other notable sites, including a short river boat trip up the Nile for lunch. I can thoroughly recommend this company, at no time did we feel we were pressured to go anywhere or purchase anything we had not agreed upon. Thank you gentlemen, for a most memorable 2 days.

“Hurghada to Luxor overnight ”
This was perfect for me and my two children travelling alone to Luxor. We were collected at 3pm by our own driver who took us the 4 hour drive across Sahara to meet our guide Haytham outside the Luxor temple. From start to end there was flexibility about what we wanted to do and when. We saw Luxor temple at night which was perfect. The driver and guide worked like clockwork making all the arrangements for hotel and pickups. We felt 100% safe with an educated guide along the way. Haytham even checked us into the hotel. 9am the next day we headed to Karnak with personal guide q & a along the way! Then lovely trip across the Nile and stopped off for drinks in Africa rooftop restaurant (great food as we returned for lunch and welcome) before valley of the Kings tour, lunch and then drive back. Haytham was very thoughtful giving my kids constant snacks and keeping an eye on us all. So glad I did this trip and highly recommended to get you seeing the world outside resort hotel. Thank you.

“Excellent Value for a real Historic Experience.”
No trip to Upper Egypt would be complete without at least trying to see some of the truly great and historic monuments and temples. With that in mind I managed to find recommendations via Tripadvisor for “Egypt Tours Portal” who offered a personal 2 day trip to Luxor in our own private car and with our own experience Egyptologist as a guide for a mere £150pp.

Our driver, Hassan Ali, collected 5:30am and was so cheerful from the start we just knew the 4hr+ journey to Luxor was going to be enjoyable. For those that might worry about their safety in Egypt, let me assure you that this is something the Egyptian authorities take very seriously and we felt very assured as Hassan explained that throughout the journey we would be tracked along the route to make sure we were safe.
Like many non-European countries, driving standards leave much to be desired, but Hassan was the composite professional throughout. As speed crazy coaches overtook us (sometimes on blind bends) he simply pulled back to make sure there was no chance of being involved in any mishap. Likewise when two local minibus taxi’s sandwiched us whilst going over a couple of the many speed humps, while most drivers would have gunned the engine to leave these slow workhorses standing, Hassan once again showed utmost professionalism by dropping back to let them fight it out for the single lane road ahead.

Arriving at Karnak Temple we were met by the equally pleasant Ayman Abdou who we later discovered had spent 4 years at university to gain his qualification as an Egyptologist. Greeting us warmly, he once again outlined the itinerary for the two day tour and allowed us to make any alterations which might better suit us. We were to see some fantastic sites which included Karnak Temple, a Papyrus Gallery, Luxor Temple by night, The Valley of the Kings, a Stone Carving Workshop & Shop at Abou El Hagege, Qurna, Hatshepsut Temple and Colossi of Memnon.

As our journey back in time began at the great Temple of Karnak we were amused to see little parties of tourist trailing behind tour guides with their little flags in hand, some poor devils hardly able to hear what they were saying above the clatter and chatter from the throng around them. Ayman was not like many other tour guides, although he had his historic spiel we rehearsed with the injection of good humour, he was able to field our questions at will and even discuss some of the more philosophical points raised throughout our many site visits. It was no wonder more than once we found our lessons in Egyptian history being ear wigged by other tourists fed up of not being able to keep up with their own tour guides 🙂 It was sad to see so many just there to tick their “been there” list and take “selfies”, clearly missing out on the ornateness and sheer size of this ancient temple complex.
After over 3hrs at Karnak, mentally exhausted from the influx of the fascinating & spiritual history of the many Pharaohs, Gods and Shrines, we visited a Papyrus Gallery to see (and buy) some highly decorative a Papyrus pictures. No doubt we could have got Papyrus pictures elsewhere but your first trip will always be memorable and we wanted something special. Next we retired early to room 2057 of the Mercure Hotel which overlooked the Nile for some much needed recuperation.

Keen to see some of the REAL Luxor, we had asked Ayman to arrange an extra horse cartridge ride around Luxor. We were not to be disappointed by our carriage driver ‘Ali’ who’s cheeky chappie was so reminicient of a cockney cab driver. Over the moon that we wanted to see the “Real Luxor” he happily included the back roads and alleys, explaining all the way some of the real history of Luxor and it’s people. The trip included an amazing trip straight through the main Souk, a path you’d find it hard to navigate 2 tesco trolleys let alone a horse & carriage but what a sight and so many people just happy to see westerners happy to visit their country and spend much needed western cash to boost the Egyptian economy. The ride lasted well over the schedules hour and ended with us meeting Ayman in a local coffee shop for a break before our night view of the great Luxor Temple. The nights can be cold here so we were wise to have taken fleeces.

Well but delicacy lit, Luxor Temple looks stunning at night and once again Ayman was the font of all knowledge. The link between Karnak & Luxor is not appreciated by many and the historic if slight differences need to be seen to be really appreaciated. This was followed by some much needed sustenance and Ayman treated us to a fantastic meal ‘El Hussein’ Restaurant, very popular amongst even local Egyptians for it’s fantastic food. Returning to the Mercure Hotel well after 9pm we were exhausted if still somewhat exhilarated.

Early breakfast the following day was followed by the journey to The Valley of the Kings. Another very spiritual place well worth the visit. Although not allowed to escort us into the tombs Ayman pointed out before entering each of our three tombs just what to look for. Photos are not allowed so it was quite disappointing to see some still intent of taking “selfies” with their camera phones and wasting the opportunity to soak up some history by merely “window shopping” through the still highly decorated tomb passages and anterooms to the burial chambers. The Tombs are truly astonishing.

After a short stop to see a Stone Carving Workshop at Abou El Hagege, Qurna we travelled on to another of Egypt’s great monuments Hatshepsut Temple or to give it it’s proper name the “Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut” We were surprised to discover that the Polish Academy of Sciences was responsible for the study and restoration of the three levels of the temple and they have done a remarkable job. Again it’s vastness and spirituality was breathtaking and spoiled only slightly by the “been there” list tickers and “selfie” brigade. Another quick stop at the Colossi of Memnon followed and although not as impressive as the previous sites they were still worth the visit.

Lunch overlooking the Nile at the “African” restaurant was a very pleasant affair, again with local Egyptian dishes to build our sustenance ready for the 4hr+ drive. However no trip to Luxor is complete without at least a little boat ride on the Nile itself and our sail across the Nile was short but memorable.

Exhausted, Hassan’s once again ferried us back to our hotel in Hurghada, safely, professionally and with such good humour and totally understanding our knackerness at such an exhausting and exhilarating two day trip back into some of Egypt’s history.

Thank you Egypt Tours Portal for arranging such a incredible tour and our special thanks to two very special guys, driver Hassan Ali and tour guide Ayman Abdou for the way they looked after us and for their friendship. Can not recommend these guys highly enough to other who will hopefully follow in our footsteps.

“Tour ran like clockwork”
My cousin and myself went on a 2 day 1 night tour. Our driver picked us up from our Hotel in Hurghada, We drove to Luxor, driving through the Eastern Desert was awesome. Also a first rate driver, We then met out tour guide in Luxor (Excellent what he didn’t know about Egypt was not worth knowing). Visited Karnak Temple, Valley of the Kings, Hetshipsut (?) Temple, these were all awe inspiring. Went o n a half an hour Nile River cruise. Had lunch at the Africa Restaurant – again would recommend. We visited an alabaster shop where a lesson was given on how the items were made. All very interesting. Driver took us to out hotel The Sonesta St George, we opted for an upgrade to a room with a Nile River view,. Beautiful Hotel. Most luxurious lift I have ever seen. The next morning a driver picked us up early for the Flight to Cairo. Our driver was waiting at the airport, We met our guide – again both excellent. Must admit Cairo traffic was busy to say the least. Would not consider driving there myself. First visit was to the Cairo Museum, Not to be missed. The artefacts, statues etc all awe inspiring. Then we headed to the Sphinx, and Pyramids again awe inspiring, We then went to a restaurant for lunch, looking out the window to a view of the Sphinx and pyramids. Great meal. We then visited a shop that sold Egyptian oils etc. Bought some Sandalwood cream, great for dry skin. Then our driver took us back to Cairo airport for our flight back to Hurghada, where our driver met us to take us back to our hotel. Would definitely recommend Egypt Tours Portal. Whole tour ran like clockwork. Excellent drivers and guides,

Me and 3 friends did the day trip to Luxor and were so lucky to have had Hagar as our wonderful guide! From the very beginning, her cheerful demeanor and friendliness made the day absolutely spectacular! She is so knowledgeable about the history and told great stories that made us appreciate the beautiful works we were seeing even more! It truly felt like we were just a group of old friends hanging out and not like we had just met. Hagar went above and beyond to make sure we had the best day ever and she made our day with her the highlight of our trip! We felt very safe and very well taken care of the entire time! I cannot recommend her enough!!! She deserves a raise!

“Great tour company. ”
Booked a 2 day trip to Luxor online via the website. Quick response to my emails and questions. The driver picked us at our hotel bang on time. Nice comfy car, polite and helpful driver. 3 and a half hours later we were in Luxor and met our guide Sam.
He was very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Answered all our questions we had on both days. After seeing the temples on the east side we were taken to our hotel which was lovely as well. Day 2 we did the West Bank of Luxor which included the valley of the kings. Both days we had lunch included (except drinks) in 2 different restaurants but both were nice. We ended this with a boat trip on the Nile.
Sam was lovely and we couldn’t of asked for a better tour guide. We would highly recommend this company.

“2 days in Luxor”
This is our second time using ETP and it was just as good an experience. Our driver picked us up from our Hurghada hotel and we headed towards Luxor. On arriving in the city we were met by our Egyptologist Sam. We were taken to Karnak Temple and were given loads of history information and given free time for photos. We were then taken to an island for lunch, it was an amazing restaurant with animals to look at and the food was stunning. We were then taken by boat to our hotel. We decided not to go to the temple in the evening as we had a very early start for the balloon ride, however, Sam still met us in the evening to take us out to dinner. Our balloon ride was stunning, more than we could have hoped for and well worth the 0415am start. Our second day consisted of a visit to Colossi of Memnon, Temple of Hatshepsut and Valley of the Kings. Our tour ended with lunch with a beautiful view of the Nile. We said goodbye to Sam with hugs (it felt like we’d know eachother for years) and then we were driven back to Hurghada. Ahmed the owner of the company gives you a call (via your guide) at the end of your trip to make sure all is as expected.

I don’t think you could ask for anymore.

“2 days trip to Luxor from Hurghada”
I decided to book a 2days trip to Luxor according to the good reviews.
The communication between Ahmad and myself was excellent, always prompt with replies and very helpful and clear.
The tour was very well organized – a decent car, an excellent guide, lovely hotel, delicious 2 authentic Egyptian lunches, Nile River Boat trip – all included in the tour price which I thought it was a good value for this contents.
The time with a guide, Haythem was unforgettable. His excellent knowlegde helped me to understand Egyptian history deeper. Also He was very helpful for our needs – arrangement of a taxi to the restaurant for a dinner and extra visit to the historical place (Deir el-Medina). I would like to send my warm greeting to Haytham!!
The whole trip was not only a fun but also very educational and academic. I highly recommend this tour and company! Thanks so much for the amazing experience!

“Overnight trip to Luxor from Hurghada”
My friend and I booked this trip with high anticipation and it did not disappoint. We were picked up at our hotel very early(05.30) for the drive to Luxor.
We met our guide Mohammed once in Luxor and he was most knowledgeable on all of the sites we visited. It was great having a private guide rather than being part of a group.
They went out of their way to accommodate some details of the trip to suit what we wanted, as we had some special requests. Top tour.
