El-Sawy Culturewheel is a magnificent cultural center that is located on Gezira Island in the district of Zamalek in Cairo and it was actually named after its founder "Mohammed Abdel-Moniem El-Sawy". It is considered one of the most impressive cultural venues in Egypt and more than 20,000 visitors come monthly to visit it and to spend some time touring there.
The location of El-Sawy Culturewheel was previously a garbage dump and it was also a shelter for drug addicts & homeless people. Abdel El-Moniem El-Sawy named the site with that name in honor of the novel that was written by his father who was an Egyptian novelist.
While being in El-Sawy Culturewheel, you can enjoy lots of different activities & dozens of cultural events. It chooses the main theme for it every year to address the main social problems of society just as begging and homelessness. There are lots of amazing concerts and musical events in El-Sawy Culturewheel that are held in that spot including Jazz, children's performances and chorus, and musical theatre, and there you will find lots of Egyptian & Arab bands, entertainers, and singers.
That is not all about El-Sawy Culturewheel as it also hosts exhibitions, seminars, book fairs, movie shows, and workshops. This spot has the whole freedom within its shows since it is the first non-government-controlled cultural center. El-Sawy Culturewheel hosts tens of seminars and conferences and among the most famous celebrations, it hosts the annual theatre festival, the Sakkia Conference, and El-Sawy Culturewheelfestival.
There are also some interesting libraries in this cultural center just as the library of Children and the great music library. You will be amazed by the art courses that are available in that center including violin, piano, painting, and sculpture for both youth & children. The ones who are responsible for the performances that are held on that site cooperate with the most recommended organizations & artists to arrange the most unforgettable cultural shows & performances to reflect the greatness of Egyptian culture and civilization.
The main goal of El-Sawy Culturewheel is to value all human beings without giving anyone any specific classification and everyone there is treated equally there without considering his /her social position, and this is without a doubt a really interesting experience for the majority of locals and foreigners.
This cultural center also started a project of having its own Radio station that is called Sound of Sakia in 2009 which aims to enrich the cultural scene in Egypt. Moreover, it is considered the creator of "The White Circle" which is a symbol of an environment free of smoke and it is used now by the WHO in 22 different countries.
