Valley of the Queens is the burial place of many of ancient Egypt’s most beautiful and powerful queens, along with important members of the royal family. Located on the West Bank of Luxor within the Theban Necropolis near the Valley of the Kings, it was known during the New Kingdom period (1570–1050 BC) as Ta-Set-Neferu, meaning “The Place of Beauty.” Like the Valley of the Kings, its exterior was intentionally simple and modest to avoid attracting looters and tomb raiders.
